As the warm emperates continue in Nevada, many motorcyclists are taking advantage of the weather to hit the highways on their motor bikes. Unfortunately, the chances of motorcycle accidents increase when there are more bikes on the road.

Such was the case just north of Yerington, where a 46-year old man was killed on his motorcycle on Highway 95-A (I-95). On September 20, Michael Leonard died when his motorcycle reportedly slammed into the side of a commercial dump truck which had apparently failed to stop at a stop sign. Leonard was ejected from his motorcycle and died at the scene.

This fatal accident occurred just one day after a three-motorcycle pile-up in Las Vegas. According to Nevada Highway Patrol officials, the September 19 motor bike crash briefly closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 just north of Speedway Boulevard. The trio of motorcyclists was taken to a nearby hospital, but their conditions and identities were unknown.

These wrecks illustrate the dangers that motorcyclists in Nevada must be careful to avoid. Because drivers of passenger vehicles often have trouble seeing motorcycles, they don’t often yield the right of way to their two-wheeled brethren – and that can result in accidents that lead to serious injuries. These odds increase on highways and freeways, where the speeds of all vehicles increase.

If you have been injured in a motorcycle accident in Clark County, be sure to contact a qualified personal injury attorney. He or she will advocate for your rights and seek compensation for your injuries and lost time at work.

Douglas A. Feldman was traveling on his Yamaha motorcycle down Rainbow Boulevard at 7 a.m., just like many other commuters heading to work. Sadly, Mr. Feldman never made it to his destination. He was in a major accident involving a Dodge Ram and a Kenworth semi-truck pulling two trailers.

Reports indicate the motorcycle failed to stay upright, falling on its right side and subsequently sliding into the rear of the Dodge pickup, according to the Las Vegas Sun. The created a chain reaction wreck and mayhem on the road.

This is the 63rd loss of life this year from a vehicle-related accident in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, many of these deaths involved individuals on a motorcycle. Why? Because there is a heightened risk of serious injury when you get involved in a crash on a motor bike. In fact, motor bike riders are roughly 37 times more likely than car drivers to die in a crash and nine times more likely to suffer an injury, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.

My deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Feldman’s friends and family. He was only 36 years old. We don’t know what caused the motor bike to fall to it side. There may have been a mechanical issue. We’ll have to wait and see what the accident report reveals.

A motor bike rider originally from Las Vegas was traveling down U.S. Highway 2 in Columbia Falls, Montana when he lost his life in a terrible wreck.

The motorcyclist slammed into a Ford Taurus near mile marker 132, according to the Billings Gazette. The passengers inside the car were not harmed but the motor bike rider was killed. He was only 46 years old.

The exact details of what caused the car-motorcycle crash have not been revealed. Was one of the drivers distracted? Was there a mechanical issue? We’ll have to wait until the accident report is revealed.

Unfortunately, a loss of life is not uncommon when a motorcycle and a car collide. And the motor bike operator usually takes the brunt of the wreck. This doesn’t mean the motorcyclist is automatically liable. If it turns out the car driver was driving recklessly, the family of the motor bike rider would have grounds to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.

A motor bike rider and a passenger were enjoying a ride in North Las Vegas when their lives came to a tragic, abrupt end. The motorcyclist approached the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard near Bruce Street and wound up colliding with a car.

The car-motorcycle wreck was so severe that the motor bike rider died at the scene and the passenger suffered very serious injuries, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

This is the third accident this year in North Las Vegas. Coincidentally, all three wrecks have involved motor bike riders.

I want to send my heartfelt condolences to the family of the motor bike rider and I hope the passenger is able to pull through, though their life may never be the same. This was a terrible accident and illustrates the risks associated with riding a motorcycle.

I appreciate the thrill of taking to the road on a motorcycle. It can be truly exhilarating, but your body is exposed and if you wind up involved in a crash with a car, truck, SUV, or even another motorcycle, the damage can be severe.

Both the motor bike rider and the passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, which is a good thing. Again, this crash shows that a helmet sometimes just isn’t enough to prevent a serious injury or loss of life in a major motorcycle accident.

Thousands of people suffer very serious injuries in motorcycle accidents. To make matters worse, there are many instances when someone is killed in these types of wrecks. For example, in 2009, the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reported that 4,762 people died in motorcycle crashes.

That’s not all. Motor bike riders are roughly 37 times more likely than car drivers to die in a crash and nine times more likely to suffer an injury, according to the GHSA.

What can be done to reduce these troubling statistics? Well, some common sense safety measures can be taken. For example, every motorcyclist should wear a helmet. Why? Because helmets play a vital role in preventing serious injuries or death in a crash. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates that helmets saved the lives of 1,829 motorcyclists in 2008 and if all motorcyclists had worn helmets, an additional 823 lives could have been saved.

I understand the temptation to take your motor bike out on Interstate 15 (I-15), I-215, or maybe even the Vegas strip for a ride without a helmet; the wind whipping through your hair and the sun shining on your face, but this is extremely dangerous. As mentioned earlier in the post, you’re nine times more likely to get hurt on a motorcycle in an accident. Don’t take that risk.

Watching your speed is another important safety tip. Many motor bike riders throw caution to the wind and decide to speed. This is a pathway to disaster. If you wind up getting hit by a car or truck, you’ll suffer the full brunt of the accident and may suffer a traumatic brain injury, damaged spinal cord, or even lose your life. Again, it’s just not worth it.
